#PSA: Two things--(1) #dental health is important and (2) mocking people for bad teeth is ableist

Last night I lost a big chunk of filling from my one of my molars. I am sure will need refilling as otherwise it won't be able to grind food as that's the only side with enough grinding surfaces left to do so. 😳

I have kept meticulous care of my teeth since I was a kid and even now as and adult; it was extraordinarily rare for to have a single cavity.

Post-2001 infusable #chemotherapy, my mouth #chemistry (#saliva) changed and 25+ years later still has the 'wrong' balance for proper dental protection, made worse by #DryMouth from other meds.

This means 8+ #cavities per year is now typical, plus the occasional #RootCanal (this means many of my teeth are literally dead but the root canal allows them to still function as long as they last).

Bottom line: take care of your teeth, but be aware that essential #MedicalCare can mess things up regardless. 😬

It's a nasty problem, especially when chronic. I hope you are able to find something to mitigate it, AND I hope it eventually improves.

Be aware that if your mouth chemistry has been altered, then your saliva may no longer protect your teeth very well anymore either. Don't be surprised if you have a sudden surge in cavities, etc. 😢

This is a common problem for people on chemo and many other medications, and also sometimes just a medical issue on its own.

You should be able to purchase nasal lubricant sprays or gels off the shelf at your local pharmacy. Oral ones are avail too.

BUT … at least in my part of the world, these are often just not avail. Unsure if always sold out now or supply-chain issues. 😬

Indeed, there are a LOT of over the counter shortages of medically-necessary supplies from 2020 and continuing even now.

Extreme dry mouth/nose? Lots of products are never or only briefly in stock.

Same goes for a lot of Rx meds too, but usually those reappear on a more definable timeline. OTC? Who knows???!? 😡

What's going on with glucose supplies? 😱 I haven't been able to find any tablets for at least two months now except for occasional batches of unaffordably-over-priced small-batch tablet tubes and some orange-flavoured bottles (also overpriced and I'd rather not risk triggering a reaction to whatever makes it taste like an orange). #diabetes #glucose #shortages #supplyChain #yeg #abhealth

Any tips for extreme dry mouth? Had it already from meds I’m on, but new meds have made it worse. I’ve also had a problem with swallowing which was getting worse before this, but now there’s a lot more I can’t eat. I’ve tried thinning and cutting things up. I drink water before I eat. I’m going back to my gp, but if anyone has any tips in the meantime. I just nearly choked on a cuppa soup 😩
