In the afternoon session it was Alastair's Lay of Hob Freeborn, a folklore enthused tale of peasant uprising with a dark secret at its core. Again, not too enthused by the system but the play was again good and the mystery very well conceived and delivered. I'm glad I eventually got to play Dragon Warriors but I'm not sure I'll go looking for it again.

The six DW paperbacks have sat on my shelf for 40 years but there was a 40th anniversary celebration of the game yesterday in a London pub so I thought I'd give it a go. The original GM was indisposed so no RQ flavoured DW but John stepped in a ran a good game during which my assassin caused trouble and killed things in a no so abandoned evil temple. The system is mostly combat and a bit slow for me, but the play was fun.

Played in "Winter's Daughter" for #Dolmenwood and #OldSchoolEssentials. While my gaming tastes haven't leaned much towards the #OldSchoolRenaissance, it was fun and brought back fond memories for Basic D&D, the first "full" RPG I learned and of which I still apparently remember a fair amount... (And the setting "inspired by the fairy tales and eerie folklore of the British Isles" also reminded me of the fine 1980s #DragonWarriors.)
@mrundkvist #DragonWarriors, 1985 aged 14. Book 6 introduced warlocks and the greater world of Legend, also the setting of the Blood Sword game books. Hook, line and sinker.
I had tried some Lone Wolf before that, but it didn't captivate me. The group play's the thing.
