Hangahar by Sally Smmit And Her Musicians , released on Groovy Records in 1980.

"Minimalist freaking meets faux-mythic language and outsider arias with the cream of the Groovy crew along for the ride. Sally Smitt (say it backwards, Mekons fans) and cousin Lindsey Lee are the divas and a modified Tiller Boys get free at last behind them." Drag City

Burning Kingdom is the second EP by Bill Callahan (also known as Smog), released on Drag City in 1994 and later re-released in Europe on Domino. "My Shell" is an electric version of the 1991 single of the same name.

Review by Heather Phares

Four vignettes of concentrated sadness, Burning Kingdom has to be one of the darkest-sounding EPs released in the late 20th century. Particularly effective is the haunting "Reneé Died," which pits Cynthia Dall's frail voice against brittle acoustic guitars.

Julius Caesar is the third album by Bill Callahan (also known as Smog), released in 1993 on Drag City.

Review by Heather Phares for Allmusic

Like grainy snapshots taken in an instant-photo booth, Julius Caesar's 13 songs have a fuzzy, distinctive character, heightened by their low-budget surroundings. Darker songs like "Your Wedding" and "What Kind of Angel" sound even blacker because of the muddy, distorted sound quality...Julius Caesar's wide emotional and sonic palette is contrasted by Callahan's consistently honest, often blunt lyrics..An immensely creative album, Julius Caesar's artistic, arranged approach to lo-fi displays Callahan's willingness to grow and experiment as a musician and storyteller.

Forgotten Foundation is the second album by Bill Callahan (also known as Smog), released in 1992 on Drag City. It is the last album that Callahan recorded at home.

Brain Howe wrote for Pitchfork when the LP was reissued in 2005:

..For newer listeners, it should be stressed that young Bill Callahan was very different from the mellow miniaturist of Supper and A River Ain't Too Much to Love. This is Smog at his lo-fiest and no-waviest, his most misogynistic and malicious. If you dislike the bookends of Accumulation: None, the distortion-drenched echo chamber "Astronaut" and the toneless no-fi dirge "Hole in the Heart", you should steer clear of Forgotten Foundation. But if you find those songs strangely magnetic for their sheer contrariness, and wonder how the competent, tranquil Smog of today earned his reputation for musical and lyrical malice, you'd do well to begin here.

Viva Last Blues is the third studio album by Will Oldham. It was released under the moniker Palace Music on Drag City in 1995. The album features Oldham on vocals and guitar, and was recorded by Steve Albini.

Review by Peter J. D'Angelo

This incarnation of Palace, one of its more impressive, sees frontman Will Oldham turning out some of the strongest bleak country-rock in his career and taking the music in a few intriguing and even upbeat directions. With a great supporting cast that includes, among others, Sebadoh's Jason Loewenstein on drums and Oldham's brother Ned on bass, the group busts out laid-back twangy tunes that can really rock when the opportunity comes up. Most notably, tracks like "Work Hard/Play Hard" and the opening "More Brother Rides" are brimming with energy that may not overwhelm, but certainly provides a hefty backbone...

Days in the Wake is the second studio album by Will Oldham. It was released under the moniker Palace Brothers on Drag City in 1994. Original copies of the album were eponymous.

Mark Deming of AllMusic said, "Days in the Wake is the simplest work in the Palace canon, and among the very best." - Wikipedia

Last seen on these shores supporting Godspeed You Black Emperor! At the National Stadium in Dublin, Tashi Dorji is a Bhutanese-born, Asheville-based experimental guitarist whose fiercely intuitive improvisations have carved out a unique space in the contemporary avant-garde. His expansive discography includes deeply felt solo works like Stateless (2020) and we will be wherever the fires are lit (2024), and his forthcoming electric album low clouds hang, this land is on fire (2026) on Drag City. Dorji is one half of Manas, the dynamic duo with drummer Thom Nguyen, and a founding member of the free jazz trio KUZU, alongside saxophonist Dave Rempis and drummer Tyler Damon. His collaborators span a wide spectrum: from Mette Rasmussen, Susie Ibarra, Efrim Manuel Menuck, Alex Zhang Hungtai, John Dieterich, Audrey Chen and Joe McPhee to more recent partnerships with Tony Buck, Terrie Ex, Andy Moor, bassist John Edwards, and drummer Steve Noble. Across his solo and group projects, Dorji’s playing, rooted in alternate tunings, prepared guitar, and spontaneous gesture, articulates an aesthetic of resistance, deep listening, and collective transformation.
