England cricketers don't help themselves sometimes.... Stokes & Atkinson investigated over nightclub incident

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/c0ry801k2geo

Along with a piece of "what ifs" and "could bes" from Stephan Shemilt.

Remember George C Scott in Dr Strangelove? I'm going to channel his Gen Buck Turgidson when he's explaining things to the President.

1) WE DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS.

Journos are going berserk based on a couple of lines from ECB and Saracens Rugby Club. Something happened, we don't know what, it's being investigated.

2) THE GAME WAS OVER

Getting late night bladdered after a game has finished does not effect the result. We also do not know the full details of the team protocols in place. Perhaps there was a misreading. Again, we do not know the full facts.

3) AN "INCIDENT" COULD MEAN ANYTHING

Until we know the full facts - recurrent theme here - the word "incident" has no real meaning. It could be something inane, silly and irrelevant. But these bodies being what they are, they have to use specific words and phrases.

4) STOP TALKING CRAP

I'm sorry, but "Immense Damage" is a phrase far more accurate for the poisonous racism that has clouded the game and its media since the Yorkshire CCC racism story exploded.

Until we know the full facts, anything cricket journalists might utter is just waffle.

5) IF ON THE OTHER HAND HE'S GOOD, REALLY SHARP...

The point that Richard Thompson and Richard Gould were in post at Surrey CCC when Tom Maynard died aged 23 in an incident involving alcohol could be thought by some to have some bearing on their immediate futures.

But we should wait until the facts of the incident are known. Not rely on conjecture from journalists.

Rare Behind-the-Scenes Photos Highlight the Making of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Dr. Strangelove’

Vintage Everyday published a collection of 44 black-and-white behind-the-scenes photographs from the production of Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 film “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.” The article revisits the legacy of the movie, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest political satires and black comedies ever made. Kubrick originally planned the adaptation of Peter George’s novel “Red Alert” as a serious Cold War thriller, but during development he concluded that the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction was so absurd that the story worked better as satire. The article highlights the performances of Peter Sellers, who famously portrayed three separate characters in the film: Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and the eccentric Dr. Strangelove. Sellers’ portrayal of the wheelchair-bound scientist, complete with involuntary Nazi salutes, became one of the film’s most memorable elements. Another focus of the article is the movie’s iconic War Room set, designed by production designer Ken Adam. Its dramatic triangular layout became so influential in popular culture that former U.S. President Ronald Reagan reportedly asked to see the ‘real’ War Room after entering office, only to discover that it existed solely for the film. The article also references the film’s unforgettable ending, where Vera Lynn’s song “We’ll Meet Again” plays over scenes of nuclear explosions, reinforcing the movie’s darkly ironic tone. Overall, the post serves as both a photographic retrospective and a tribute to the enduring cultural impact of Kubrick’s Cold War masterpiece.

ANALYSIS | Dr. Strangelove diplomacy: How the Pentagon’s symbolic defence board freeze with Canada could backfire | CBC News

Washington’s decision to suspend a symbolic Cold War-era defence body may have been meant to pressure Canada on military policy. Instead, experts say it risks reinforcing Canadians' distrust of the United States, complicates the politics of NORAD and missile defence, and makes future purchases of American military equipment even harder for Ottawa to sell domestically.
