Chap 2 is where the action starts, and it's already intense. There's a lot of info about the world and characters conveyed in the action, from how good at organisation stationers are to the character of Signy. It's good stuff. There's also some hints in there about "native workers" that does not bode well for how the Pell's planet is being treated!

#Cherryh’s work was darker when she was younger. She had stuff personally to work through. She writes amazing suspense though.

#DownbelowStation is ultimately a positive book, as is the longterm arc of pretty much all her #Scifi storylines.

Would say that its clear that she’s always working towards understanding differences and becomes more optimistic as she ages. Her most recent books are the most positive.

@jpaskaruk While it comes somewhat in the middle of her timeline, I recommend ‘Downbelow Station’ as a great starting point.

It was really the book that kicked off the #AllianceUnion universe, & won the Hugo. She’s written forward and back in the timeline, but #DownbelowStation is a big complex lynchpin book that you won’t want spoiled by later ones.
