I enjoyed this BBC programme on Don't Stand Me Down, Dexys Midnight Runners' follow-up to the hugely successful Too-Rye-Aye. It was an album I first heard of when there was a chapter on it in Unknown Pleasures, a book about underappreciated albums given away with the Melody Maker in 1995, picking up a copy of the record soon after. It was nice to hear that seeing the chapter was a big boost to Rowland at a low point in his life.

BBC Radio 4 - Follow-Up Albums, Dexys Midnight Runners - Don't Stand Me Down

Dexys' brave and very different follow-up to their hugely successful album, Too-Rye-Ay.

BBC

Damn.

I can't find my vinyl copy of "Don't Stand Me Down."

Bill: Come on, are you gonna tell us what she's like or not?

Kevin: Bill, I'm trying, I'm trying to tell you what she's like ...

(It's probably time to complain again about the chaos left over by our most recent move.

Of course, that move was almost fifteen years ago. Someday we will finish unpacking....)

Listening to this whilst working. I was so upset with Too Rye Aye I just never entertained this album. It’s not terrible, but also not convincing me yet. I’ll play it through….
