#Dodecatheon meadia, now #Primula meadia. I can't find any information on the origin of this cultivar, but from the name one might imagine it's more than a hundred years old, probably a selection of the species.

#Primula syn #Dodecatheon meadia 'White shooting Star'. Native to forests where I grew up but extirpated by people picking; first time I ever saw them live was in a garden. This particular one is a selection of the naturally occurring alba variant.

The flowers hang from shorts stems; a complex of pistil and stamens pointing downward, gold near the stem and then becoming dark purple with white edges. The petals are reflexed and recurved upward, gold at the base, then a ring of white, then bright magenta to the tips.
