Doctor Who - The Reality War Review - Pop Culture Maniacs

We said goodbye to the Fifteenth Doctor - and perhaps Doctor Who as a whole - with an even season finale that reintroduced familiar faces.

Oof- Good episode overall but definitely a notch below some of the better finales

A few thoughts immediately after watching it:

  • I did not like that that Sutekh had been riding the tardis for all time, I would've preferred tying it back to the toymaker or the sprinkling of salt or something this season.
  • I loved that they brought the memory tardis into the main show, solid explanation for it as well
  • How difficult is it to even use the time window, part 1 they had a whole team operating it, part 2 Ruby just goes down there and does it herself with no trouble.
  • I really think they should've had the cliffhanger from last week happen AFTER sutekh spreads his death dust, particularly after the Doctor screams in the void of space, cut to black and then start the finale with some '6 months later' text or something entering on him talking to the woman on that dust planet. Just give us a week waiting with the idea of everyone being dead- instead of the like 30 minutes we actually got.
  • The silence/void of space was really well done, it was pretty eerie seeing the shot of the tardis out there (they've done that shot before, but it was particularly creepy)
  • I was not a huge fan of the 73 yards connections, either tie it deeply into that episode or don't mention it at all.
  • "Love a whistle" is such a Doctor Who line
  • Episode 7: Oh no we've already gone back in time to that moment there's no way for us to find out who your mother is without using this high tech time windowEpisode 8: Let's just do a DNA test
  • Not a huge fan of complete resets, at least have something persist from Sutekh's destruction (I thought for sure Mel wasn't coming back)
  • I love the idea of Ruby's mother just being some random woman, I hate the idea that the woman is so mysterious that the god of death has no way of figuring out who she is?? Either make her important or not.
  • There were way too many 'important' cast members in both episodes. Clearly they're setting up a UNIT spinoff show, but right now it's just a bunch of people I don't care about
  • Overall a lot of fun, it does knock down my rating of the 2 part finale though- unfortunately.
  • Whaaaat the heck #doctorwhofinale
