I highly recommend watching this #documentary to understand how young #Israeli #dissenters / #ConscientiousObjectors feel & the consequences they face for trying to stand for justice. They're in the minority in Israel & are often called traitors by Zionazis. I know some former Israelis in BC who have been ostracized from their families; who refuse to stop being bigoted Zionazis & support more violent land thefts from Palestinians. Dissenters don't get support from a society that has been brainwashed to hate all Arabs - they usually face abuses/harassment for taking moral & ethical stands against occupational forces/violence.
This #DocFilm was made well before Oct 7.
Like all Israeli youth, Atalya is expected to become a soldier. Unlike most, she questions the practices of her country’s military, and becomes determined to challenge this rite of passage. Despite her family’s #political disagreements and personal concerns, she refuses #military duty and is imprisoned for her dissent. Her courage moves those around her to reconsider their own political positions and power to effect change.
