Divine D. open source smartphone inches closer to launch, gains microSD Express, micro HDMI, and LoRa support

Earlier this year a Tunisian group called DawnDrums SARL revealed their initial plans to build a Linux-friendly smartphone called the Divine D. with a 5.5 inch AMOLED display, a Rockchip RK3588S processor, and an open source design.

Now the team says it’s updated the mainboard with a Rev 1.1 design that brings a number of significant changes, including a bunch of features you’re unlikely to […]

Interesting looks like the new revision of @dawndrums #DivineD #mobilelinux phone will include lora onboard so it will be one of the few, only?, mobile phones with integrated lora. I know #pine64 made a backcover but that is kapoot. Hopefully it works well enough to run #meshtastic / #meshcore right on a phone and not have to worry about carrying another device.

Divine D. Rev. 1.1 Hardware Architecture | dawndrums

dd-rev1.1-arch

We have finalized the schematics for Divine D. Rev. 1.1 and are now moving to the layout phase. The hardware architecture includes new subsystems such as microSD Express, micro HDMI, LoRa, and an under-voltage battery monitor.

Additionally, a Pogo interface allows for accessory connections, exposing USB 2.0, SPI, JTAG SWD, I2C, terminal UART, GPIOs, and a bi-directional power path. For more details, check our blog: https://docs.dawndrums.tn/blog/dd-rev1.1-arch/

Watch Divine D. making a test call on Phosh. This was only to try the call application, power consumption and connectivity. There are many other scenarios for such a test, such as during low-power modes, running performance applications, audio quality, audio routing, bluetooth HFP mode.. We will be covering those as the hardware revisions and software improve.

Debian 13 "Trixie" Now In Hard Freeze: MIPS64EL Demoted, RISC-V 64-bit Promoted

Debian 13.0 is now one step closer to release with Debian developers having moved Debian 'Trixie' into a hard freeze state ahead of the official release this summer.

@dawndrums I was looking at the Divine D. Hannibal revision bring-up page, you are doing an impressive work there!

I see you have chosen eMMC for internal storage, have you considered using some faster memory type like SD Express or BGA NVMe? They both use PCIe links to achieve higher bandwidth.
