#LeicesterCityCouncil is the #localAuthority for the city of Leicester, in the #ceremonialCounty of Leicestershire, England. Leicester has had a council from medieval times, which has been reformed on numerous occasions. Since 1997 the council has been a #unitaryAuthority, being a #districtCouncil which also performs the functions of a county council; it is independent from #LeicestershireCountyCouncil. The council consists of 54 #councillors, overseen by a #directlyElectedMayor.

Yesterday was the Hong Kong District Council Election. The government changed the entry criteria and the pro-democracy party only got one member in to be elected, meanwhile the pro-government party had a few dozens.

As a result, citizens are not voting, and therefore the voting rate this time was hilariously low (27%). For reference, it was 71% last election in 2019.
