Scale is Step by Step

John Cage from poetry to databases

Ah, #CRDTs, because who doesn't love a good acronym party where you pretend your distributed to-do list is the next big thing? 🙄 Apparently, merging distributed databases is the new "big idea"—because copy-pasting in Google Docs wasn't groundbreaking enough. 🎉

Missing the Forest for the Sequence Trees.

🤔 Ah, the elusive "Strong Eventual Consistency" of CRDTs—where data structures frolic freely, merging like magic while you daydream about the grand revolution in distributed databases. 🌐💾 Because, obviously, the world desperately needs its multiplayer TODO lists to be more synchronized than a boy band in the '90s. 🎤✌️

Question for people who like to geek out about Merkle trees. Anti-crypto comments will be ignored.

If a P2P network is storing genealogical records, it does need universal consensus, right? Alice can't be the daughter of Bob in one part of the network, and daughter of Johan in another part.

Does that mean this is legitimate use case for a BlockChain? Or could you use something like HoloChain?

#Amazon's new patent app 20230273937 simplifies client access to distributed databases. It allows operations on database objects before a master replica is elected. On a trigger, a replica becomes the master, coordinating with others. Simplifies data management! #DistributedDatabases
