the wonderful #DiscoPogo (formerly JockeySlut) have made a book about #BuggedOut, the 90s techno club held at #SankeysSoap in Manchester. I rarely got the chance to go because I was resident DJ at #AcidRock at the Phoenix on the same nights which meant I was hardly ever free to attend.
Bugged Out! had proper guest DJs all the time, many from the US and the residents (James Holroyd and Rob Bright plus others) were utter skill and lovely guys.
i’m loving this book. I have all the #JockeySlut magazines still, and I’m a patron of its re-launch as #DiscoPogo and reading about #AphexTwin and all the other names he released music under is bringing back lots of memories.
I have loads of the early releases - GAK and AFX - and all the utterly shit 12”s like Ventolin.
I gave up listening to him because he released so much crappy stuff, so it’s nice to listen to the releases I missed out on like Syro. It’s all unmistakably Richard D James.

When I was trying to make a name for myself as a DJ in 1993 I was reading stuff like Jockey Slut (now #discopogo) and finding my feet, experimenting with what music I wanted to play. I was playing techno but also playing ambient sets in the chill-out room at raves and cafes. This beautiful track made me cry whilst sitting in my tiny bedroom.
