According to the NYPD's own report, during the period of October 2011 to December 2015, the SRG made 274 total arrests, of which only 3 were terrorism-related. This means that approximately 1.1% of the SRG's arrests during this period were related to terrorism.

There are several departments within the NYPD that deal with firearms. The NYPD Firearms and Tactics Section (FATS) is responsible for providing firearms training and qualifications for all NYPD officers. The NYPD also has a Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) which investigates the illegal use, sale, and possession of firearms. In addition, the NYPD has specialized units such as the Emergency Service Unit (ESU) and the Strategic Response Group (SRG) that are trained and equipped to handle situations involving firearms.

If the SRG department were disbanded, it is possible for other departments within the NYPD to assume some or all of its responsibilities. For example, the NYPD has a Strategic Response Group, which includes officers trained to respond to large protests and civil unrest, and could potentially take on some of the SRG's responsibilities in that regard. Additionally, other specialized units within the NYPD, such as the Counterterrorism Bureau, could also potentially assume some of the SRG's responsibilities related to counterterrorism operations.
