Final shots of the "Tyranid hunter" Dire Avenger.

As I said, this was for a challenge to paint a member of one army in a scheme of another army.
Choosing Tyranids and then Hive Fleet Leviathan, I just had to choose how to apply it to the dire avenger.

Select armour piece were assigned as the purple, the majority of the armour was to be white and then spot colour small parts in pink. And, of course, the weapon in red.

More angles of the previously armless Dire Avenger #2.

Upon painting, I blended what I would use for an Eldar fleshtone into the Tyranid arm's red at the shoulder to show a more genetic basis for the grafting, rather than just being stitched on.
Somehow makes it feel more permanent.

A few more views of the "Tyranid Hunter" that is Dire Avenger #3

The spear arm is an older eldar arm (than the majority of the mini') and a (possible) Fantasy Orc halberd and hand.
I just combined the two at the wrist.

Dire Avenger #2

Missing an arm upon indoctrination to the army, this dire avenger was gifted a new arm by The (Mad) Scientist.

A simple modification with an added flesh cable and some putty work at the shoulder.

Dire Avenger #3 "Tyranid Hunter".

When I found that the spare head pieces for the Tyranid warrior were a suitable size for a shield, I needed a reason for a troop-sized miniature to use a tyranid-style shield...

Enter the tyranid hunter; disguised as his quarry, he stalks his prey.

My part in a challenge to paint a mini' in another army's scheme.

A couple more photos of Dire Avenger #2

Some putty was used to fill around the shoulder joint as the Tyranid ball is smaller than an Eldar shoulder ball.

Also a putty "hose" was used at the front to replace the second plugged in arm that a Tyranid uses.

A blend from flesh to red was chosen to sell the grafting of the Tyranid to the Eldar body.

Today I have been dusting my displayed models with a soft brush and an airbrush.

They no longer look like they are in a snow scene.

Below you have a blurry photo of the large shelves.

Let me know if you'd like a clearer look at any of the fuzzy blobs of colour (many, but not all have been shared on sm).

With that in mind, here's some clear photos of my Dire Avenger Exarch and the sculpted Venus statue I made for the basing.

Dire Avenger #2.

Part of my personal army/collection.

He has had a Tyranid arm grafted onto his body, permanently.
