The world is experiencing three major disease outbreaks in the first half of 2026. @[email protected] has more on how distrust in health care is making Ebola, hantavirus and diphtheria more difficult to combat.

Ebola, hantavirus, diphtheria: how distrust in health care is fuelling multiple outbreaks across the globe

Distrust in health care during infectious disease outbreaks can have devastating consequences. Here’s what we can do about it.

Africa: Ebola, Hantavirus, Diphtheria - How Distrust in Health Care Is Fuelling Multiple Outbreaks Across the Globe: [The Conversation Africa] The first half of 2026 has been marked by three different disease outbreaks: Ebola, hantavirus and, in Australia, diphtheria. Each has exposed vulnerabilities in how we detect, communicate and respond to infectious disease outbreaks. http://newsfeed.facilit8.network/TT2hcC #Ebola #Hantavirus #Diphtheria #HealthCare #InfectiousDiseases

As an aside:

Our doctor informs us that, as we will be travelling through the NT and SA outback, and due to the way diphtheria can be transmitted, we should get booster shots before going any further.

We have a #diphtheria outbreak in Australia.

According to the Australian Centre for Disease Control (AuCDC - yes, we have one of those now):

Diphtheria is a serious bacterial infection. It most often spreads through respiratory droplets, or direct contact with the wound.

If only there were some way of stopping spread through respiratory droplets.

If only.

Where did this outbreak start? NT First Nations populations where they don't have access to decent healthcare.
You can thank Andrew Forrest + Tony Abbott for their cashless welfare punchdown, along with high rates of imprisonment. Healthcare, climate, humanrights - everything is connected.
Time for a billionaire tax!

Lucas Waldron and Patricia Callahan take a long, sobering look at what may well happen down the road if RFKJr gets his way with vaccines and vaccine makers stop making vaccines readily available for the American market. Their modeling of a possible trajectory looks at polio, measles, rubella, and diphtheria.

When immunization rates drop plagues from the past can come roaring back, as measles has in American communities where parents decided not to vaccinate their children.
