Dionysus in Wisconsin with E. H. Lupton

Sebastian Nothwell (he/him) interviews E. H. Lupton (she/they) about under-explored eras of historical fiction through a queer lens and the community of indie publishing. E. H. Lupton (she/they) is the author of the 1960s-set queer fantasy romance trilogy Dionysus in Wisconsin, Old Time Religion, and Troth. You can connect with them at their website: Sebastian Nothwell (he/him) is the author of Oak King Holly King, Mr Warren’s Profession, and Fiorenzo. You can connect with him at his website:

I had a "Do Not Summon Demons in the Library" T-shirt printed for the 6yo at his request. (It's a #DionysusInWisconsin joke.) Recently I found out he's intentionally been wearing it to school on library day.

I'll be doing a reading from Dionysus in Wisconsin at #RainbowSpaceMagicCon on Saturday (9/30) at 3pm CT. I'll also be doing a panel on accuracy in fantasy fiction and the middle ages on 10/1, also at 3pm CT. You can still register to attend--it's online and free!

Wait, now yu ar »a bit cranky« for publishing »a report on the amount of damage caused« at the #Altamont Speedway Free Festival

Dude. »Security« was drunk Hell’s Angels, and they stabbed a man to death, after knocking out the
Jefferson Airplane singer.

Mentioning the property damage first sounds more blasé than cranky.

Oh, yu hav to say that.
When the pater familias said he’l be »sailing for Europe«, i thought »odd that he’s taking an ocean liner 🛳️ in 1969. Bit late for that. Everybody else is flying«.

Actually, he’s going by sailing yacht. ⛵

I lack the cachet to publicize this correctly, but someone on Insta has been drawing fan art of some of my characters from Dionysus in Wisconsin and I'm blown away. If you're an insta person, go give them a ♥️ maybe.

Here's one of Ulysses:

Wait. Now i'm confused.
The book used "the isthmus" as if people knew what it meant.
Turns out, #Madison is located on the isthmus between two lakes.
Now somebody is taking about *the* lake.
Which one? Yu have two! Otherwise you wouldn't hav an #isthmus!

Huh.
I knew that »to table (a motion)« has the exact opposite meaning in US English and non-US English:
•to set up for discussion 🚫 🇺🇸
•to remove from discussion 🇺🇸

#TIL that the US version *still* means »to put *on* a table«. I thought it ment »to take *off* the table«.
So, the 🇺🇸 image is not waving the paper around, but putting it on a side table.

Ugh.with the bad tipografy and the bad editing, i can’t really concentrate on the story.

»there was a large bonfire«
… that is completely forgotten in the next paragraf:
»most of the illumination came from Christmas lights«

Or maybe they have a lightless fire? Or really high-powered Christmas lights?
