Joint Industry Position on Omnibus IV | CEMA

Today, seven European associations representing the machinery and equipment industries are publishing a joint statement on the Omnibus IV proposal, ahead of the upcoming trilogue discussions. Our message is clear: 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, but it must be 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 across EU product legislation. In its current form, Omnibus IV creates several serious challenges for our sector: 🔹 𝗡𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 for the mandatory digital Declaration of Conformity under the Machinery Regulation, making the machinery sector the only industry without the 24‑month adaptation period foreseen for all other product sectors. 🔹 𝗔 “𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀” 𝗤𝗥‑𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 that diverges from the agreed Machinery Regulation and raises cybersecurity and implementation concerns. 🔹 𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, combined with inconsistent definitions of “consumer”, creating legal uncertainty for manufacturers. Our industries are committed to supporting the EU’s digital transition. But to succeed, digitalisation must simplify compliance, not introduce new burdens, especially for SMEs. We remain ready to work with EU institutions to ensure Omnibus IV delivers practical, secure, and future‑proof digitalisation measures for Europe’s industrial base. Privacy Considerations in Research

This presentation sketched the scenario of academic research on personal data, and discuss common pitfalls regarding (in-effective) anonymization attempts, and technical approaches towards privacy-preserving analyses. It was held in context of the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Digitalisation of Research of the Leibniz Science Campus "DiTraRe" (=Digital Transformation of Research).
