Sasha von Oldershausen never knew why she couldn't burp, but she has lived with pain all her life as a result. Then after a scary trip to the ER, she Googled, found a community, a possible cause, and a cure. She writes for @TexasMonthly about what happened when she had her cricopharyngeus (a muscle at the top of the esophagus) injected with Botox.
Digestive Health and Peppers
2/2
Many years ago when I used to drink too much alcohol, I had a brief experience with acid reflux. I gave up alcohol and stay sober now.... and acid reflux has never returned. But I continue to eat the spicy foods, more so than when I drank, and I now have no health complaints about my digestive system.
My experience: peppers do not cause digestion problems, but excessive alcohol consumption does.
Digestive Health and Peppers

I enjoy something spicy usually every day, mostly from cayenne and jalapeno peppers, some from my own garden, and I am thankful to have healthy digestion. I never had an ulcer and have no acid reflux. I sometimes wonder if the peppers have helped my overall health, but I also just feel good after a spicy meal.
