Volkswagen taglierà 50.000 posti di lavoro in Germania entro il 2030 a causa del calo dei profitti, superando l’accordo con i sindacati raggiunto a fine 2024. L’annuncio è contenuto in una lettera dell’amministratore delegato Oliver Blume rivolta agli azionisti e inclusa nella relazione annuale dell’azienda. Il gruppo aveva già raggiunto un’intesa con i rappresentanti del Consiglio di fabbrica sulla gestione di 35.000 esuberi nell’ambito di un più ampio piano volto a risparmiare 15 miliardi di euro all’anno. A quei numeri si aggiungono ora ulteriori tagli che riguarderebbero Audi e Porsche, così come dalla sussidiaria software di Volkswagen, Cariad.
La casa costruttrice tedesca ha chiuso il 2025 con un utile netto quasi dimezzato a 6,9 miliardi di euro contro i 12,4 miliardi del 2024. Il margine lordo è calato da 59,47 a 51,24 miliardi di euro. La causa del crollo degli utili del 44% è da attribuire ai dazi statunitensi, alla concorrenza cinese e al costoso rinnovamento di Porsche, fa sapere il gruppo. Per Volkswagen si tratta dell’utile più basso dal 2016, quando il gruppo – sulla scia del Dieselgate – dovette affrontare miliardi di dollari in spese una tantum a causa di richiami e problemi legali relativi ai test sulle emissioni.
Guarda all’evoluzione delle vendite, Volkswagen fa notare che in Europa gli ordini sono stati in aumento del 13% con un’imponente crescita dei veicoli elettrici (+55%) che sono risultati fondamentali per il volume complessivo. Lo scorso anno, a conti fatti, la quota di veicoli elettrici è stata pari al 22% del totale degli ordini del gruppo. Per l’anno in corso Volkswagen prevede di aumentare le proprie vendite fino al 3%, con un ritorno operativo sulle vendite compreso tra il 4 a il 5,5%. Nel settore delle auto Volkswagen prevede un ritorno sugli investimenti compreso tra l’11 e il 12% e il flusso di cassa netto è previsto essere compreso fra 3 e 6 miliardi di euro, con una liquidità netta compresa fra 32 e 34 miliardi di euro.

Volkswagen will cut 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030 due to declining profits, exceeding the agreement reached with unions at the end of 2024. The announcement is contained in a letter from CEO Oliver Blume to shareholders, included in the company’s annual report. The group had already reached an agreement with the factory council representatives on the management of 35,000 redundancies within a broader plan to save 15 billion euros per year. These figures are now supplemented by further cuts that would affect Audi and Porsche, as well as Volkswagen’s software subsidiary, Cariad.

The German automaker closed 2025 with a net profit nearly halved at 6.9 billion euros compared to 12.4 billion in 2024. Gross profit fell from 59.47 to 51.24 billion euros. The collapse in profits of 44% is attributed to US tariffs, Chinese competition, and the costly renewal of Porsche, the group says. For Volkswagen, this is the lowest profit since 2016, when the group – in the wake of Dieselgate – had to face billions of dollars in one-time expenses due to recalls and legal issues related to emission tests.

Looking at sales trends, Volkswagen notes that in Europe orders have increased by 13% with impressive growth in electric vehicles (+55%) which were key to overall volume. Last year, in fact, the share of electric vehicles was 22% of the group’s total orders. For this year Volkswagen forecasts an increase in sales to 3%, with an operating return on sales between 4 and 5.5%. In the automotive sector, Volkswagen anticipates a return on investment between 11 and 12% and net cash flow is expected to be between 3 and 6 billion euros, with a net liquid cash balance between 32 and 34 billion euros.
