Missed our latest DND stream? No problem catch the chaos as our party faces zombies, skeletons with hair, rogue mishaps, and some questionable singing.

Oftentimes I hear about a new rpg and I just want to know how the system mechanics work.
For a baseline I want to know (presuming it's a dice system) what does my character roll to:
- Persuade someone of something ?
- Pick a lock ?
- Avoid getting hit by someone/something ?
- Hit someone/something ?
And it is frustratingly difficult to find these basic answers inside games which are more than a single page.
What are you opinions on the d20 dice itself. Do you find that it creates too large of a spread? Do you dislike how most games use the 1 and the 20 for critical failures and successes? Do you swap it out for 3d6 or something else?
