Retracing a family’s 100-year history from China to Saskatchewan shows ripple effects of immigration policies

On the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act, siblings reunite in Regina to learn more about how this discriminatory immigration legislation influenced their parents’ lives – and the secrets they kept as a result.

Email from 1st grader's teacher asked parents to help them prep for a class activity. What's the origin of their names, what does it mean? etc.

I am thinking really hard about this and while the English name had thought put into it, it's the Chinese name that really carries significance for me. We put a lot more thought into the Chinese name and it pairs with his sister's name to mean respect and admiration (it's a two word term and they each have a character of it).

Despite being born and raised in Canada, I realize there's so much culture that I have managed to hang onto thanks to my family.
