He eventually got the seat pole out and I was able to ride the bike home. But it was amusing to watch him try to pry it out for like 5 minutes.

I've broken my spokes so many times in the past. So, that was why my first thought was that's what happened. At least the other side of the frame was holding it together while I unknowingly kept riding it home.
