Sorry, but #Marathon is a failure.

Sony has the ball in their court now. Players didn't resonate with the game, at all.

My expectation? #Bungie will transform the game into a F2P, upsell cosmetics, and it that does not work, they'll try P2W and abandon it while they move forward with #Destiny3.

If Destiny 3 isn't a colossal success, Bungie will be either sold or closed.

@chris I believe they invested too much on the name and forgot how niche the game is.

If they would invested $50M and built from there, I assure you they would have more than 25K players.

Anyway, I wonder how #Destiny3 is going to shape out, given the tarnished reputation of Bungie as of late. It's a husk of a studio to me.

That was a good waste of $200M. They could have fixed #Destiny2 with that money.

Yeah, I don't think #Marathon is going to survive.

The game bleeds 5K gamers each week, currently 30K average.

It sold 1.2M copies, but for the development cost, I don't think #Bungie will stay past the first expansion, unless they can pull out a Realm Reborn (they won't).

It's obvious that Sony will push #Destiny3 into the studio given this failure.

On average, each copy returns $30 to Sony. If the rumored $250M investment is true, they require over 8M copies to sell to "break even", without microtransactions.

We will see what happens in the coming months if #Sony doubles down, or goes full ahead to #Destiny3.

Afater a massive marketing campaign, and two weekends, #Marathon numbers look grim.

Their real numbers will be set once #CrimsonDesert releases, making the game:

a) Pay the debt: Ocassional updates, aggresive monetization.
b) Cut the losses: Server shut down in June, layoffs.

In both cases, #Sony will pivot #Bungie to #Destiny3. To me, it will be their "do or die".

Jokes aside, I consider 80k "healthy", but we're talking about a free weekend and 50% retention. You want grow, no abandonment.

I highly doubt #Marathon will sell 80k copies. For the amount Sony invested in this game, expect this game to die and rapidly pivot #Bungie to #Destiny3.

#CrimsonDesert releases after 2 weeks and will kill Marathon.
