There is only one song that I could possibly end with.
My favourite song from my favourite film,, from anywhere and anywhen.

The only film I own a copy of the dialogues of – a beautiful physical book with the dialogue in two(3?) languages and four scripts.
A line from this song is in my profile, & the last verse sums up my view of the world perfectly, which is why its opening lines are on a t-shirt I had printed.

Bringing Punjabi and Urdu together, my favourite qawwali was written by an Urdu poet and sung by (among others) a Punjabi singer, Mohammed Rafi. The lyrics include both languages, too. Sahir and Rafi were a dynamic duo for sure. If I had a rupee for every time I've heard this song, I'd be a crorepati but as Anil asked, who wants that?

My Dad grew up in Punjab ("5 rivers"),tried to teach me them as a kid & could name them all 70 years later. ALL my bosses are Punjabi, and when we moved into our current home 6 years ago 70% of the block was Punjabi (~50% now).

Which makes this very Punjabi song both apt and ironic. Apt because Sadi Gali "our street" IS Punjabi, ironic because I have almost no Punjabi #Bollywood #HindiCinema #Punjabi

Still with family: When I was a kid, my little sister used to write to a great-aunt living in Kolkata. That city is the setting for this Hindi film, an adaptation of a Bengali novel, with the music composed by a famous Bengali composer and lyricist. The repeated line "main ro padungi" - "I will (have to) cry" nicely sums up why I think of Bengali as the Russian of India (cf Devdas, & Satyajit Roy 's Apu trilogy). LOVE this song though

Filmi qawwalis 'come from' Sufi religious qawwalis, like this one. Devout AND catchy, from my favourite Salman Khan film. This film shot in India about cross-border antics reminds me of my UP-born Dad who grew up near where this song is set in (now) Pakistan. Also, my non-Hindiphone wife groks the clear audible distinction between ख and ख़ (nukta) in the singer's voice, warming my urduphile heart #Hindi #Urdu #India #Pakistan #HindiCinema

Another qawwali, another Rafi song, showing the versatility that made him, as the title of this film says, "Master of Masters" - that the song is also brimful of Asha doesn't hurt either.

Mentioned in "Brimful of Asha", and one of the singers in Day 28's song, Mohammed Rafi was an incredibly versatile singer. This 'lovers' lament' is a nice example of his mastery of mournful.

SRK & Kajol are icons of Hindi cinema, but the Taj Mahal is an icon of India. This song is based on a poem by my favourite filmi lyricist, the Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi - a poem that irrevocably altered my perception of that tomb.

Another SRK/Kajol classic, by the time I saw DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) it had already been showing in continuously at least one cinema in India for more than 10 years. This song is a "great" example of Lata's late-career voice being incongruously paired with a much younger actor, imo.

SRK is not my favourite actor, but when it comes to onscreen chemistry his pairings with Kajol are justly the stuff of legend (which cannot be said of her onscreen pairings with her IRL husband). This number from K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) is a favourite of mine
