Once upon a time there were no weeds. Plants of all kinds found ecological niches that were just right for their needs, and there they grew and prospered.

Then along came humans. They decided which plants were lovely and which ugly, which were tasty and which poisonous, which were useful and which useless, and they deliberately cultivated some plants and excluded others. And so there began to be weeds.

Likewise, once upon a time there were no undocumented immigrants.
