An interesting take from Alex Fein in #RedbridgeIntel. What do everyday Australians want, and what binds then to each other viewed though the political lense — because living in societies is very much about #politics.

“Consider the rise of One Nation. The reflexive interpretation from the political/media class is that this represents a lurch to the far right. It does not.

What it represents is a furious rejection of the neoliberal consensus shared by both major parties: a rejection of Labor and the Coalition’s fidelity to sectional interests that lobby them to legislate (or not legislate) in ways that are manifestly counter to the national interest.”

Polarisation is a Myth

With One Nation ascendant, those with the greatest interest in keeping us divided need us to forget how much we agree. The first progressive party to harness this properly will be unstoppable.

@jmcrookston I read the entire thread.
The sheer scale of atrocities and blatant disregard for human decency in the Trump administration is shocking. His actions are so extreme that they would have ended any normal politician's career. I can’t even remember them all. 😢

The list of abuses is staggering: firing generals, banning hunger surveys, cozying up to dictators, and turning the presidency into a grift. The corruption, authoritarianism, and cruelty are numerous and numbing.

What's most disturbing is how predictable it all was. We saw the warning signs, but the institutions that were supposed to stop him failed at every turn. This slow-motion collapse of democratic norms raises questions about the resilience of American institutions and how fragile they really are.

The system's failure to stop Trump despite the warning signs is a stark reminder of the need for institutional reform. Can we strengthen democratic institutions to prevent similar failures?
