In much the same place, I fear.
1) the extreme, wealthy right has been playing a very long game. Cf MacLean's #DemocracyInChains. The Democrats had rolled over and played dead since 1980 as far as any response to the right wings playbook went.

2) Gore is an adherent of the market based neoliberal mythology, and is unlikely to have meaningfully addressed the job/income/affordability issues that have led to a steady decline of support for the Democratic Party. I believe he supported a lot of the policies that led to the dot com bust, and the 2007 - 2010 financial crisis (sub-prime mortgages, etc) - Glass–Steagall repeal, for example.

3) I see no evidence that Gore, or any of his successors in party leadership, have any meaningful response to the "we can't afford...", "tax and spend", etc lines from the right whenever efforts to address underlying social problems.

4) the failure to address impacts of trade and manufacturing outsourcing to low cost countries.

“By 1860, two of every three of the relatively few Americans whose wealth surpassed $100,000 lived below the Mason-Dixon Line. New York at that time had fewer millionaires per capita than Mississippi. South Carolina was the richest state in the Union. The source of southern wealth was staple crops—particularly cotton—produced by enslaved men, women, and children for world markets. So matchless were the profits that more money was invested in slaves than in industry and railroads.”

"I'm in the "I hope we can resurrect democracy in all of the countries including our own" camp and general strikes are coming."

A few years ago, there was this book about the #US, #DemocracyInChains.
In the #US, the next installment is in the streets, #DemocracyInAStranglehold, the same holds true for #Israel, and, increasingly, #India.
In #China and #Russia, it has already been choked to death.

Yes, #GeneralStrikes, as they would...
