Del Norte County KCEC → Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport KMFR

This leg again? Yep, another short test flight, in the Cirrus Vision Jet again. But the real focus? Testing the Map Enhancement Plugin for X-Plane. The scenery looks so much better with it!

Next stop? Not sure yet. But Portland, OR is just 200 nautical miles away! Rumor has it there are some amazing breweries there…

Back in California for a short test flight in the Vision Jet. The next flight will take me further to the north, promise!

California is now behind me; Medford is the first stop in Oregon. With the King Air, the 70 miles passed in no time at all, there was barely enough time to snap a few photos.

This time, I switched to X-Plane 12 as my flight simulator software and completed a few training flights.

The King Air C90B is a twin-engine turboprop and comes with a classic-meets-modern "mullet" cockpit, so I wanted to give it a try.

The default ground imagery in X-Plane differs from Microsoft Flight Simulator in that there’s no aerial imagery projected onto the ground, which is a slight drawback. However, the lighting effects are impressive, which makes up for it to some extent.

Crescent City is the last major settlement before the California-Oregon state border. The forests grow increasingly dense, and the landscape becomes noticeably greener.

There's more to Oz than the Yellow Brick Road

Day 4 was for returning, but there was enough time for one more peak and a visit to the triple point. Water from there variously goes into the Smith River (via middle fork), the Illinois River (via east fork), and Klamath River (via Clear Creek).

I headed out on a backpacking trip to the Preston Peak (high point of Siskiyou Wilderness) area. Day 1, well, that turned out to be a hiking day. The seasonal road closure 5.25 miles from the trailhead was still in effect.

The fire is 116.4 acres per the perimeter uploaded to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), which is visible on the Watch Duty map under the Active Fire Perimeters map layer.

Note: Fire perimeters are preliminary and indicate general burn area but do not reflect structure protection efforts by firefighters. A structure within a fire perimeter may not be damaged or destroyed.
