That tsunami is leaking onto what is left of the Usenet newsgroups causing all sorts of spam problems there.
The spam probably means some legtimate messages from Google Groups to Usenet are getting dropped, and postings arriving from Usenet and indexed into Google Groups are getting buried.
This as various Google Groups are bi-directional with Usenet, and Google Groups is the current “home” of what was once known as DejaNews; of some of the deepest and most complete Usenet posting archives.
This probably means Google search index will further de-rank Usenet discussions from their main search indices, too.
PS: Yes, Usenet still exists. For some projects, there’s still useful info indexed there, too.
