Nach vielen Jahren auf MacOS bin ich gerade dabei, zurück auf Linux zu wechseln. Habe mich für Linux Mint entschieden, früher immer Ubuntu genutzt. So far, so good. Nach der Vollkatastrophe Liquid Glass bin ich froh, endlich wieder ein funktionierendes System benutzen zu können. Installation bei Mint war auch super straight forward und der Desktop ist fix und es passt soweit alles. Nun aber folgende Frage:

Welches Backup-Tool nimmt man denn heutzutage? Ich habe früher rsnapshot auf der Kommandozeile mit einer vollverschlüsselten USB-Platte als Ziel benutzt, aber finde den Komfort einer graphischen Lösung wie Time Machine unter MacOS nicht schlecht. Kurzes googlen zeigt mir Volta, Back In Time und Deja Dup als potentielle Kandidaten für ein lokales Backup an. Was würdet Ihr empfehlen und warum?

Bon, depuis que #DejaDup #Backup de #Gnome ne notifie plus les sauvegardes programmées, j'oublie très souvent de les faire (FAITES VOS SAUVEGARDES... MAINTENANT !)

Là ca faisait 8 jours que j'avais pas sauvegardé mon système 😞

Ich habe lange Syncthing verwendet. Seit ich wireguard einsetze speichere ich bevorzugt direkt auf dem NAS-Server.

Ich mag es, wenn mein Linux zwischendurchwieder auf Werkseinstellung ist.
Ich habe allerdings noch keine Lösung für das Backup des NAS.

At some point in the last few months, deja dup has gotten unbearably slow. When I use duplicity directly with backblaze, my backups take 10 minutes; with deja dup (presumably using restic now) it takes over an hour.

Part of the problem was that at some point in these updates, several of my ignored folders were not being ignored (confirmed by looking at dconf), but I fixed that weeks ago.

Any thoughts?

Convinced my son to switch to #bazzite
Lost all his save files b/c I thought the game used Steam Cloud (which it didn't).

He did a bunch of work to get his game back into shape.

Bazzite installed without UEFI making dual boot hard, so I did a reinstall to fix it.

Used #DejaDup to do a backup of the whole home directory this time!

DejaDup only backed up the symlinks, not the actual steam directory data 😡

Now I get to tell him all his newly recreated saves are gone

Actuellement, j'ai :
- un backup incrémental quotidien et chiffré de mon laptop à la maison, avec #DejaDup, sur un petit disque dur rotatif externe.
- mes documents importants (mais non critiques) sont synchronisés sur mon serveur
- ces mêmes documents sont resynchronisés sur un autre portable « de secours » et sur le portable de HuitAns.

C'est déjà bien mieux que la plupart des gens, je sais.

So, when you're asking: How hard can it be to get backing up right? The answer is: Yes.

(Again: Somehow this works on my Mac machines since 20 years. When you're wondering why I just bought a new MacBook Air for my wife again, it's reasons like this.)
