Good morning Fedi! I'm working on #degoogleing my life right now and moving to open source or privacy focused alternatives from not evil corporations. I think I've got most of the basics covered on a personal level, although more suggestions are welcome!
I'm (re)starting my #virtualassistant business from scratch, and I'm looking for open source tools to use and recommend to my clients. Is #BillionaireFreeBusiness a thing? My goal is to run my business 100% Google/Amazon/billionaire free, including servers. Unfortunately, I'm not able to self-host, and neither can a large portion of my potential client base.
I stumbled upon Odoo and it seemed like a dream come true... all in one open source with free then *very* reasonable (actually mind blowing) plans. But they use Google and Amazon (legacy) servers, although another company is listed first, I'm assuming that one's managing most of the European servers. And also Google analytics and a few other tools/integrations. Does anyone have suggestions for something similar that's #googlefree ?
What other #opensourcebusinesstools are you using? Particularly #CRM / #ERP type tools. And/ or individual tools for things like newsletters, Calendly and Drive alternatives (specifically for real-time file collaboration and storage), zoom alternatives, etc. Things that are user-friendly. Bonus points for eco friendly options!
TIA for any recomendations!

PS- I survive capitalism by helping people who give a crap about the world with wingman and wordsmith support. If you want to be part of building a better world, in big ways or small, I'd love to connect! Let's help each other survive the world we live in while working towards the one we want to live in.

I want to look into #degoogleing my #email.

Does anyone have opinions on #protonmail vs #fastmail?

Ty!

ETA: thanks everyone for the boosts/replies. I've decided I'm going to go with Fast Mail! :)

Recently discovered #AdventureLog, an open source project designed around giving you a space to log and plan adventures - aptly named!

It gives you a spot to record notes for each trip (upcoming and in the past), keep track of travel information such as flights, maintain a checklist and see a timeline with your destination. Vital to avoiding those "hmmm where am I staying tomorrow... Wait did I accidentally forget to book lodging!?" moments.

Looking forward to some of the current ideas such as #immich integration.

It's definitely a work in progress but I like the concept and direction the developer is heading. They seem really passionate about the project at the very least! Going to spend some time adding in some past trips to see how it all fits together.

Squeezing under the wire for posting this in November, but decided to start up a blog for the first time since Blogger, and post about my #Degoogleing adventures with moving off Gmail using #imapsync

Leaving Gmail with imapsync

Systems Administrator and Freelance Theatre Audio Engineer and Designer. I think trains, public transportation, and open-source software are pretty neat though.

De-Googleing my life is harder than I thought. It‘s a long process to make the switch in all the different areas. Google Mail and Calendar are very well integrated and I also use the mobile apps. I share files via Drive with my wife. Not to mention our library on photos…

This week we‘ve started migrating the first portion, which is Drive into our self-hosted NextCloud. We‘ll get there slowly.

Just ran out of Kagi searches on the $5/300 search tier.

To give it a proper try, I switched to using it as my main search engine on the 7th. It's not been a very search-heavy month for me at all, and even so I've used up 300 searches in 13 days.

Pros:

  • Almost no search engine chum (trash content, AI generated features, stolen articles) - this is its main advantage over DDG
  • Clean, accurate, on-topic results
  • No fucking ads or tracking or search history or any such bullshit.

Cons:

  • Having trouble finding the right mode for me. International searches skew too US American, French searches cut out international content entirely.
  • It's fequently just a search engine for reddit, per its top results. I've turned on the Small Web lens to see if this helps.
  • Eh, I have uncomfortable feelings about Kagi AI, which attempts to extract useful answers from documents. That said, if the forthcoming video question answering service means I don't have to watch a 15 minute video to find a 20 second answer that could have been one line of text, I may warm to it.

I was hyper-aware of only having 300 searches, and didn't like that at all. It affected my search habits and make me less likely to just casually look stuff up.

I'll upgrade to the $10 unlimited plan for the rest of the month, given that being able to research stuff is key to my professions.
