Hundreds of #TwinCities #HighSchool #students walked out of school Monday to #protest federal #immigration enforcement in #Minnesota, and some school leaders in the region are increasingly concerned about high absenteeism with families fearing being caught up in #US Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.

An estimated 500 high school students walked out of Roseville High School Monday morning, walking from their school, around the parking lot and onto a bridge over Minnesota Highway 36 in Roseville.

US judge orders deportation of activist #MahmoudKhalil to Syria, Algeria

Court documents, revealed on Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), showed that Louisiana immigration Judge Jamee Comans issued the ruling on September 12, accusing Khalil of failing to disclose key information when he applied and secured lawful permanent residency in the US.

Judge Comans claimed that Khalil did not disclose his ties to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and #Columbia University Apartheid Divest, an activist group which advocates for an economic boycott of #Israel, on his green card application, describing it as a “lack of candor” by the applicant.

A little over a year ago, Drin Shapiro was a student programme assistant at the #UniversityOfMichigan's (UM) English Language Institute, and a student in his final year of a bachelor's degree in history.

Since then, he has faced criminal charges brought by the state's attorney general, lost his on-campus job, spent time behind bars, and, as of last month, was still being disciplined by the university despite having graduated in May.

All of this was because he took part in a student encampment against the war on #Gaza on 21 May 2024. He was arrested during the police raid of the encampment and was later released on bond.

Columbia’s capitulation has turned a #university that was once a site of free inquiry and learning into a shadow of its former self, an-anti university, a gated security zone with electronic entry controls, a place of fear and loathing, where faculty and students are told from on high what they can teach and say, under penalty of severe sanctions. Disgracefully, all of this is being done to cover up one of the greatest crimes of this century, the ongoing genocide in #Gaza, a crime in which #Columbia’s leadership is now fully complicit.

"The #UniversityOfMichigan is using private, undercover investigators to surveil pro-#Palestinian campus groups, including trailing them on and off campus, furtively recording them and eavesdropping on their conversations, #theGuardian has learned.

The surveillance appears to largely be an intimidation tactic, five students who have been followed, recorded or eavesdropped on said. The undercover investigators have cursed at students, threatened them and in one case drove a car at a student who had to jump out of the way, according to student accounts and video footage shared with the #Guardian."
