#US Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., is calling for the immediate release of a Clark County man whose attorneys say was mauled by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement dog despite not resisting arrest.

Undercover immigration officials detained Wilmer Toledo-Martinez, of Vancouver, Wash., outside his home on Nov. 14. An #ICE agent pretended to be a construction worker, claiming he had hit Toledo-Martinez’s vehicle and needed to exchange insurance, luring the family out of their home, according to the senator.

Another agent was waiting for Toledo-Martinez outside, releasing a dog that then mauled him, according to his attorney. As of Saturday, Toledo-Martinez, was being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma.

In Boyle Heights, a predominantly Latino neighborhood in East Los Angeles, the streets were unusually quiet. In the early afternoon, a time when the neighborhood is typically bustling with activity, the sidewalks and stores were empty.

I met Ceasar Sanchez, standing at the entrance of a barbershop on Cesar Chavez Avenue, one of the area’s main thoroughfares. Inside, every chair sat empty.

Mr. Sanchez, who works at the shop, hasn’t had a single client this week. “They’re just afraid to go anywhere — shopping, stores, even work,” he explained.
