#USMilitarySpending #DefenceBudget
Good reporting here from The Guardian. Imagine what schools, healthcare, infrastructure could do with money like defence contractors are getting?
"High Pentagon budgets are often justified because the funds are ‘for the troops’,” said William D Hartung, senior research fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and an author of the report. “But as this paper shows, the majority of the department’s budget goes to corporations, money that has as much to do with special interest lobbying as it does with any rational defense planning. Much of this funding has been wasted on dysfunctional or overpriced weapons systems and extravagant compensation packages.”
To conclude: #Europe is ready to assume its responsibilities. #ReArmEurope could mobilise close to EUR 800 billion for a safe and resilient Europe. We will continue working closely with our partners in #NATO. This is a moment for Europe. And we are ready to step up.

#DeclassifiedUK | The mainstream media are beating the drums of war
"Using the Nexis database to search for coverage of increased defence spending (interestingly, there are significantly more stories on “defence spending” than on “military spending”), we found a 2700% rise in stories across the UK media from 17 February 2020 to 17 February 2025:"

“Prepare for war”. This is Kaja Kallas, EU foreign policy chief. She’s Estonian 🇪🇪 so the tension has always been there, but this ain’t a bland statement. We should take her seriously.
The allocation to defence in GOI budget which was presented in the parliament is less than 2% of our growing GDP. An analysis of open source information, international military trendlines, global security situation and the growing military budgets of our adversaries indicates that the defence budget is far from adequate. It also shows up serious defeiciencies in defence planning. I have highlighted all these and backed my arguments with facts. Feed back will be welcome.
