I saw people discussing whether it's important that the Fediverse, or Mastodon specifically, "grow".

I have thoughts, after seeing a few reactions.

What I find is that the kind of people I want to spend time with, devote attention to, share with, seek out, will gravitate to the same places, mediums, platforms and activities as I do.

So while it's nice if "everyone is here", or "the important people are here", that's not my own goal anyway.

The chemical shield we never notice.

Have you ever noticed how a nasty cut doesn't really hurt until the exact moment you look down and see the blood? It’s not a mind trick; it’s a brilliant survival mechanism.

The moment you get hurt, your body instantly enters fight-or-flight mode, flooding your system with adrenaline and endorphins, your brain’s natural morphine. This chemical shield blocks the pain so you can get to safety. But the second your eyes visually confirm the blood, a psychological alarm bell rings. Your brain realizes the damage is real, drops the shield, and lets the full intensity of the pain rush in. The pain didn't wait for the blood; your brain just waited for the visual proof to tell you it was time to heal. Biology is wild. ⚡️🤯
