Rio Grande gorge from the Taos overlook. The gorge is a 50-mile-long canyon through a thick layer of volcanic basalt. It is a beautiful, popular destination for camping, hiking, rafting & fly fishing.

The Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Piedras was built in 1900. The original adobe had a pitched metal roof and wooden belfry. A metal roof was added, and a vestibule was added to the front several decades later.
Today is Pie Day in Pie Town.
Pie Town is a small community of about 200 people in western New Mexico, founded in the early 1920s by Clyde Norman, a World War I veteran & homesteader who gained fame for baking pies with dried apples for travelers along U.S. Route 60.
Located at the north end of the Tularosa Basin, Valley of Fires is one of the youngest lava flows in the continental U.S., 4-6 miles wide, 160 feet thick, covering 125 square miles. Little Black Peak erupted about 5000 years ago, with lava oozing 44 miles into the Tularosa Basin.
