Thaw di Gras 2026

It was Dawson City's Thaw di Gras Spring Carnival this past weekend. As always, it was bitterly cold, but sunny! I went out three nights in a row! We kicked off our Thaw di Gras by absolutely freezing nearly to death for 35 minutes in line to get into Gerties for our town's annual Lip Sync competition. Our friend Alex was the Master of Ceremonies for the event! It's a very popular highlight of Thaw di Gras, so even though we got in that line to get in, we still sat nearly at the back, […]

The graders say it is SPRING!

It's totally not spring, it's cold, and windy, and never ending, but it is sunny and the graders are stripping the snow off the streets! I zipped out for some groceries at lunch yesterday but had to turn around and go a long way because Fifth Avenue was getting its snow stripped up! Not only could I not cross, the drop off was well over a foot. The streets are gravel here and not plowed often here in Dawson City. Instead, the snow just packs down into ice and gets thicker and thicker as the […]

Armour courtois – a night of medieval jazz!

Tonight, with my friends Janet, and Alex, I attended Amour Courtois: Medieval Meets Jazz at KIAC (Klondike Institute of Art & Culture). Janet and I purposely didn't look up anything about this concert or the musicians ahead of time. We wanted to be surprised! All we knew was that Janet's favourite genres of music are jazz and medieval, so she was pretty sure she was going to have a good time! To start the show, the 3 musicians came out, sat on the edge of the stage, answered questions, and […]
