Two dawn redwoods. One is in a shaded location, the other has a spot all by itself. They were bought/planted at the same time, and though the small one was smaller, it wasn't dramatically so. Small might be 12' tall. The big guy is ~30'.

One of my biggest disappointments is I won't live long enough to see them as giants.

Forest bathing while looking down into the ravine from the garage patio.

I planted this dawn redwood about 20 years ago. It is now the tallest tree in my yard.

This was taken in April at the US Nationsl Arboretum. The oldest grove of metasequoia were planted here around 1950.

The trunks get massive, resembling a bald cypress, minus the knuckles. Dawn redwoods do not have knuckle-like root protrusions surrounding their base.
