"Homicide: Life on the Street," was a game-changing television show when it launched in 1993. It was completely different to the formulaic police procedurals of the time, shot on handheld cameras, with no clear good or bad guys and a gritty approach to storytelling and visual style. It was loved by critics and discerning fans, but suffered from low ratings and network interference, though it still ran for seven seasons.
