Lou Rawls And Strings by Lou Rawls, released on Capitol in 1965.
Great early work by Lou Rawls -- no, the album doesn't have funky David Axelrod arrangements -- but it does feature Lou with some great jazzy backing by Benny Carter -- who really knows how to put the right degree of punch in the arrangements to bring out the best in Lou's voice. The set's some of Lou's best pre-Axelrod material for Capitol -- filled with strong renditions of standards and familiar tunes. Titles include "Now And Then There's A Fool Such As I", "What'll I Do", "My Buddy", "Three O'Clock In The Morning", "Charmaine", "Cold Cold Heart", "I'll See You In My Dreams", and "Nothing Really Feels The Same". - Dusty Groove
