They DO.HAVE POWER. Cities have power, towns have power, water district commissioners have power, citizens have power. States have power.
DO NOT SCREW AROUND IN THE WOODS
A lumber corporation in BC said they were building a crypto farm and applied for connection. They were told no.
And now its the law, no crypto mining.

AI Centers have been told no
I've just played with the Google android local #LLM,
Gemma-4-E4B, its the same model that the wood folk were losing their chips over a few days ago.
First, its important to understand it is a fully local model.
No internet connectivity is necessary.
How to use it:
1. Download Edge gallery from Play Store
2. Go to models and pick Gemma-4-E4B
You may want to do it on WiFi as its 3.5 GB.
Then just run it via Edge gallery.
No #datacentre
No gas turbines
No rivers for cooling
On a aging 8 Core cell, with 32GB of ram and a GPU it runs very well speed wise.
Its "only" 4 billion parameters, so how good is it?

A company called #VoltaGrid is attempting to build a massive #ai #datacentre and #LNG #powerplant in our community.
Voltagrid takes funding from #Blackstone and #Halliburton!
“A 15,000 sq metre #DataCentre near Perth will no longer go ahead after the developer withdrew plans amid community opposition over its impact on culturally significant sites. The three-storey, 120-megawatt #GreenSquare datacentre in the town of #Hazelmere had been intended to power #CloudComputing and the acceleration of #ArtificialIntelligence, but faced fierce community backlash.
A City of #Swan council review of the proposed development, which was to be located 15km east of #Perth, attracted almost 1,900 public submissions. The #council last week released its responsible authority report into the datacentre, in which council staff recommended rejecting the proposal.
In the event of a power outage, the noise of the #DieselGenerators needed to keep the centre in operation would exceed allowable daytime and night-time levels, the council found. A nearby #school and local #residents would have faced the noise had the generators been in operation.”

They are attempting to build a #LNG powered #ai #datacentre in our community, literally abutted against a massive nature preserve, and unbelieveable coastal hiking trails.
No one wants it. The mayor and counsel lie about it with every breath saying it's not a done deal. The billboards are all over town.
Myself and many members of my community will commit sabotage against it at every stage.
This is a given.
What is the footprint of a datacenter on global warming ? on minerals depletion ? on air quality ?
Those are some of the the root questions we need to answer to better grasp the actual footprint of tech infrastructures, including genAI, cloud services, and so on.
Life Cycle Assessment is an important methodology that enables to assess this footprint on multiple environmental criteria.
