28,600+ steps yesterday walking around conference and then museums and then dinner then some drinks.
Still thinking about this post-dinner fried chicken wing eaten in the spilled light from closed stores

8/n Catching back up on #WashingtonDC eatscapades. Walking from the convention center & conference towards hotel and/or Chinatown, Mall area, we passed Jaleo. Count me a fan of Chef Andrés's food + humanitarian work - it seemed empty at lunch so we stopped in. Restaurant Week Lunch menu didn't seem too exciting and paella was too long a wait so just got a couple of apps to share & taste. Squid was excellent - garlicky (touch hard) rice, rabbit rich like a curry.

Will fill in with deets of a couple of days of terrific eats (and drink) such as this*
but for now a quick stop for lunch after a 40 min charge up of the EV in Rockville MD, as we drive out. Filipino lechon! Tiny place in a strip mall - doing brisk takeout mostly.
Got the ½ slow roasted Cebu style belly, bowl of the Lechon kawali (crispy belly), bowl of fried rice and side of the sweet longanisa to share.

at McClellans Retreat bar in DC
Before the last mile walk back to hotel room.
A lovely nearly a week in DC - Cheers!

Made it for some of the vaunted #Ethiopian fare in DC.
Been years since we had Ethiopian - and after all day conferencing (me) and various museum/art visits (family) and low key or picnic packed lunches - Family Ethiopian, a little walk away was a welcome feast!
Order = Vegetarian special: diffen missir, kayser, gomen, missir wot
+ Meats: Special kitfo, dulet and (served on plate) geba weta
He passed by from the back kitchen area to the front display so quick, I had to swivel and only just managed to get to my phone camera for a shot.
Did want to order some BBQ pork but too full (and had leftovers) see

#UnionMarket was... a touch touristy perhaps but I suppose markets are like that. Anyways turns out we passed a bunch of restaurants on the drive and drive back to the hotel. So partner and I ended up walking over from the hotel and getting a bit of takeout
Crispy roast chicken was decent, lo mein was meh. Place looked much better than the food. The all-day everyday dim sum menu looked good but we won't go back

I'll start my #DasEatsDC 🧵 1/n
with dinner after we got to DC and our hotel.
Was a rather long and full day already with drive from pgh with stop at @CatoctinCreek and then Pentagon/Arlington Costco (on Friday after noon 😵💫) but we persevered and headed over to #UnionMarket that I'd heard a fair bit about.
Bustling on a sat evening, but many vendors were closed or shutting down by the time we got there
