Judge denies an order sought by a Black student who was punished over his hair

Darryl George had sought to reenroll at his Houston-area high school in the Barbers Hill school district after leaving at the start of his senior year in August because district officials were set to continue punishing him for not cutting his hair.

George’s request comes after U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown in August dismissed most of the claims the student and his mother had filed in the federal lawsuit alleging school district officials committed racial and gender discrimination when they punished him.

A Black high school student in Texas who was punished for nearly all of his junior year over his hairstyle has left his school district rather than spend another year of in-school suspension, according to his attorney.

The judge also dismissed the family’s claims of infringement on George’s First Amendment rights and its request for “compensatory damages."

The ruling was another victory in the case for the Barbers Hill school district near Houston, which has said its policy restricting hair length for male students instills discipline while teaching grooming and respect for authority.

Plus, I think he looks great. Love the style.

So maybe jealousy?

Texas State Rep. Rhetta Bowers (D-Garland), a co-author of the Crown Act, said, among other things supportive of #DarrylGeorge: "What is not mentioned anywhere is that he is an honor student and all he wants to do is learn."

Well, theirin lies the problem, then:

#DarrylGeorge is smart, anxious to educate himself & that's seen as a threat to White Supremacists: he'd grow up to be an accomplished, respected & therefore

As you can see, #DarrylGeorge wears his hair in compliance w/both the state law & school rule that boy's hair not fall below the ears, the eyebrows or the top of a T-shirt collar.

School's beef: IF HE LET HIS HAIR DOWN (which he does not) it would be too long.

Also, school does not like how he wears his hair when he's NOT in school

That is sick.

Seems to me the school & the judge are twisting themselves into a pretzel to try to justify persecuting a kid who's obviously trying to comply.
