To combat the existential boredom of high school, she runs a side business counseling local spirits in her spare time. When an unexpected occurrence happens between Darby and Capri, the most popular girl at her high school, Darby reluctantly agrees to help her and in the process learns how to fit in with the living world again.

The Human ArkleNot the best movie I saw this year, probably not even Top 5, but easily the most pleasant surprise in 2022 Films was #DarbyandtheDead, which I just finished watching. I kinda feel like people are sleeping on this one.
A Lantern Of Hope@charliejane I loved both of them pretty much equally, but I have to say Nicole Maines knocked it out out of the park in #DarbyAndTheDead. Piper was freaking hilarious.
Yoko's Asterisk 🏳️⚧I don't entirely get why #DoRevenge did better with critics than #DarbyandtheDead. They both feel pretty similar to me tbh: teen comedies about two girls who form an unlikely friendship in which one gives the other a popular-girl makeover.
(I liked 'em both, FWIW.)
Paul Roth in LA#DarbyAndTheDead has nothing to do with Christmas but Auli'i Cravalho, Riele Downs, and Nicole Maines are STELLAR in this ghostly teenage romcom. CW: the bullying is out of control, though. short of bloody violence but weirdly barely apologized for.
