82. Sunburst

🧠 Glasgow Uni looked great in the setting sun. I really wanted to try some 'breaking the rules' effects by taking shots facing the sun (mirrorless cameras have electronic viewfinders so I wasn't risking eye damage!)

⭐I love the rays coming from the sunlight disappearing behind the buildings. I also like the purple and green streaks to the left (I'm sure they've a technical name I don't know).

➡️ I took this quickly and had to rotate it so the lamppost was straight but that cut off more of the building at the left than I wanted.

🧠 I thought the Otago Street Auction House looked quite grand from the Kelvin Bridge over the River Kelvin.

⭐ I like the composition and balance between light and shade.

➡️ Bottom half could maybe have been brighter but when I tried to enhance it it became too noisy.

🧠 This sign is near Kelvinhall subway station and I like how it looks quite out of place in the middle of a pavement surrounded by tenements.

⭐The orange of the sign works well against the blue of the sky and i like how the frame is split diagonally almost in half.

➡️ There are little imperfections on the sign that I would clean up if I knew how.

🧠 Another one of my favourite buildings! I love the classical style built with modern materials (concrete with brick cladding). This was from the same outing as the one I posted last night.

⭐I like the shadows of the brancehs on the bright left side and the contrasting shaded side.

➡️ I'm sure I could make the colours 'pop' more but I still nee to learn better Lightroom use.

76. Wellington Church

🧠 I thought the building looked amazing bathed in sunlight.

⭐I love the contrast of the sandstone lit up with the shade in the lower part. I used the same new lens as yesterday's pic and on lightroom the detail on the building is amazing (doesn't translate to my exported jpg though).

➡️ I need to learn if I can do anything to counter the effects of file compression.

75. Cafe

🧠 First time using a new lens and I just had a quick shot near the flat. I thought the Hyndland Cafe would make a nice subject for the scope of the new lens (50mm equivalent).

⭐I like the monochrome of the cafe in the context of red sandstone flats, plus green plants in front.

➡️ The quality is much better when not compressed by insta! I know the composition isn't particularly interesting.

74. Slow Demolition

🧠 They're dismantling the 18 storey Jackson Court tower block in Coatbridge floor-by-floor.

⭐I like seeing the past homes exposed a handful at a time.

➡️ I wish I could make the colours inside the flats look a bit richer but couldn't figure out how without it looking too bright compared to the sky.

🧠 I wanted to make it look like the locks went on forever.

⭐I think the blurring works well to exaggerate the amount of locks at the end.

72. Waterfall

🧠 This was my first time properly trying motion blurred water. I thought the setting was perfect for it.

⭐I'm pleased with how crisp the still elements are with the slow shutter speed needed to blur the water.

➡️ I want to try to get a smoother look to moving water - might be better on a shallow river.
