Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) is a rare, hyperbolic Oort Cloud comet that recently passed its closest approach to the Sun. Discovered in September 2025, it features a distinct blue-green hue. Estimated 170,000-year orbit!

Taken from Melbourne, Australia last week with my Dwarf3 smartscope. 3 minutes of 15-second exposures, Gain 60.
Conditions were less than favorable with high-level clouds and light pollution, but this is still a pleasing result!

I’ve stacked and cleaned up the shots from last night’s run, here is the result. The Lagoon Nebula, Messier 8, shot from my garden. It looks to be an area, or volume rather, of star formation. I think that is the Triffid Nebula in the bottom left of shot. #dwarf3 #astrophotography

The last clear sky for a few days, and the moon’s getting up so no more Astro shots after this for at least two weeks. This is the middle of a run on Messier 8, aka the Lagoon Nebula. I think the Triffid Nebula is in the bottom left of shot. I’ll see how this comes out in the morning and maybe post a cleaned up version then. #dwarf3 #astrophotography

Man soll ja an der Bildbearbeitung dran bleiben. Und wenn das Wetter neue Fotos nicht zulässt, ist das eine gute Gelegenheit. Also habe ich mit alle Einzelsessions des Orion Nebels geschnappt und genau das getan.

Außerdem habe ich mal die Bildebenen getrennt und das erste Mal die Sterne raus genommen - und es stimmt: den Nebel kann man so noch viel besser herausarbeiten! Nur muss man die Bilder dann auch wieder zusammenführen… und das üben wir dann ein anderes Mal! 😄

Einstweilen hier mein Ergebnis mit älteren Bildern und meinem aktuellem Level an Bildbearbeitung und mit heraus gerechneten Sternen - nur die Nebelstrukturen also.

BTW: 10h 8min brauchbare Belichtungszeit mit dem #Dwarf3 und #Astrofilter

So last night was our usual Friday night RPG session, this time with @leece GMing. In honour of #Mermay we are playing a bunch of #mermaid police constables in a magical Victorian London.

While we were gaming, though, our #Dwarf3 #SmartTelescope s were beavering away at the comet #C2025r3panstarrs , which has just invaded the foot of #Orion .
