At present groups of neighbouring constabularies often share a Roads Policing Unit with various #ANPR capabilities - the local #Councils also have #ANPR schemes used for parking / bus lane enforcement, but these don't always share data and monitoring posts on car forums I've seen from serving #Police Officers they claim there's a lot of "red tape" to go through to get ANPR data, even within the RPU.

Most of the time its just used to catch those without vehicle #insurance, the leadfooted and those who are suspected of #DUI (especially #drugs use and/or using their vehicle for #transport as part of a drugs dealing network)
