... Not helped by their breathing problems. The pain makes them comfort-eat, so they usually become overweight, worsening their arthritis. They also have significant skin and foot problems- itching and infection.

How anyone can think this is cute and amusing is beyond me. How #DSPCA , #thejournal and #AllianzIreland and #Allianz can buy into this - for a little extra money - is sickening.

Take a closer look #DSPCA. The gaps between lower eyelids and eyes will eventually result in chronic eye infections. Likely to lead to dry-eye, a permanently painful condition which greatly reduces vision. 2. The tears running from the damaged eyes will lodge in the folds in the skin of the shortened nose, causing "scald"- cherry red, painful, soft, scalded skin which is then attacked by bacteria and permanently infected..../

It's almost as if #DSPCA and #thejournal and #Allianz were unaware of the issue; odd given the ongoing campaigns on it. E.g. in 2023, the Advisory Council on Companion Animal Welfare (ACCAW) issued a letter to advertisers and media, urging them to refrain from using such images. https://www.madra.ie/brachycephalic-dogs/

It's a horrendous image. #AnimalAbuse is never "fun" or "cute". Is the money they earn from this really worth it?

Brachycephalic Dogs Appeal - Letter from ACCAW

On 27th October 2023, the Advisory Council on Companion Animal Welfare (ACCAW) issued a letter to advertisers and media organisations, and influencers, urging

I keep getting these ads on #thejournal.ie, purportedly to promote animal welfare but in fact featuring an image of animal abuse. "To continue to breed from dogs whose progeny are bound to suffer is not only irresponsible โ€“ it is an act of cruelty." From https://www.sentient.org.au/breeding-brachycephalic-dogs

People breed, and other people buy, these dogs, who are born to suffer for a lifetime until they finally end their days, often through agonising suffocation. They think it's amusing or cute.

Congratulations to everyone completing the #WomensMiniMarathon today! It was a really hot day to be out running, but you all crushed it! Including my amazing wife, who was running in aid of the #DSPCA !

The "unprecedented" rise in animal cruelty cases should be seen as an extremely worrying symptom: where there is animal cruelty there is invariably child cruelty and domestic abuse https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/unprecedented-number-animal-cruelty-cases-27074283 #DSPCA #AnimalCruelty
