India’s DPDP Rules 2025 just rewired the country’s digital economy. Consent is now king, data practices must be rebuilt, and companies have 18 months to get it right. This is not compliance, this is the new trust economy. #DigitalIndia #DPDP #Privacy

India’s Data Rules Just Got Real and Industry Cannot Pretend Anymore - MakhanaMornings!

India’s DPDP Rules 2025 introduce structured consent, stronger user rights, and an 18 month compliance runway. Here is how they will reshape digital trust and data protection across industries.

MakhanaMornings!

after watching kunal kamra's podcast (https://youtu.be/opbEHULi7JU) and also the @internetfreedom take on the #DPDP act (digital personal data protection), i really would like to bring some attention to the fact that this new act in #india threatens #transparency, #accountability and thereby #democracy.

the new #DPDP act allows the #government to prevent sharing certain information under the guise of protecting personal information. this violates the #RTI Act (right to information) and prevents citizens from holding the government accountable by eliminating any form of transparency in governance.

the act also prevents individuals and journalists to investigate and collect any data that the government might consider to be a violation of the act and issue penalties of up to 250 crores (which can be extended 500).

as someone who is a huge #privacy advocate, it is nice to see initiatives parallel to the #GPDR but it cannot come at the cost of government silencing public scrutiny.

> Eternal vigilance is the price of democracy

Some parts are good; others are mostly just another excuse to curb our almost non-existent Freedom of Speech. 🤷

  • RTI is Right to Information
  • DPDP is the Digital Personal Data Protection Act passed in the Indian Parliament.
  • INDIA is the alliance of the opposition parties in India

Data Protection Bill does not protect us — it attacks our rights

Not only does it sound the death knell for the RTI Act, but it also makes anyone and everyone who deals with someone else's information liable for prosecution for any breach of its provisions.
